HOW WE GOT OUR START

Our Pastor, Rev. Willie Burrell Jr.  is a native of Dallas, TX.  He received his Bachelor's Degree (BA) from Denver Baptist Bible College in 1982 and his Master's Degree (ThM) from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1988 where he distinguished himself as a recipient of the Ruben S. Conner Award for Evangelism.  The Burrell Family was approached by Dr. Ruben S. Conner,
President of  Urban Evangelical Missions (U.E.M), a Church Planting organization out of Dallas, Texas, to organize and plant an Evangelical church in the Orlando area.  When Dr. Conner was pastor of Community Bible Church, he had a vision for the souls of Urban communities.  The vision was to start a Missionary Organization that had as its primary goal to reach and produce Urbanites who would have a world vision to reach the lost for the kingdom of God through aggressive evangelism and church planting.

On January 16, 1973, U.E.M., then called Black Evangelistic Enterprise, Inc., (B.E.E) was charted as a non profit religious organization.  The U.E.M. Network has planted at least thirty-eight representative churches in seventeen states and twenty eight cities.  One of the more well-known of these churches is Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, pastored by Dr. Anthony "Tony" Evans, who presently has a national heard radio program called "The Alternative".  ORLANDO BIBLE FELLOWSHIP is one of the newest UEM Church Planting Ministries.

We are supported by a number of U.E.M planted churches , as well as a number of churches here in the Orlando area, to include Northland Community Church, Faith Baptist Church, First Alliance Church, and Harvest Baptist Church, plus a number of friends and families

We are also Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention  - Greater Orlando Baptist Association (G.O.B.A) who shares our vision for evangelism and church growth.

Our Church began with a few members, some of which are still with us today, such as Bro. Charles and Sis. Jerry Magruder, Min. Bruce and Sis. Charla Handley and others.  Their dedication to the ministry  has been a blessing from God as we have seen many more members enter the church and many come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Each year we find that God brings us closer and closer to the plan he has for Orlando Bible Fellowship to be a beacon of light to the lost in Greater Orlando.

Orlando Bible Fellowship, has made a number of changes over the years gained some members and lost some members but probably the most remembered would be the loss of our First Lady, Sis. Faye Burrell on August 5, 2005.   Sis Faye passed away after a long battle with cancer. To quote from her Legacy,  not only did she accomplish so much with her own life, but she was known for the role she played in the success of the lives of those around her.  Her family was her number one priority and she dedicated herself to making a home for her husband and three children while maintaining an admirable career.  Anyone who knew Faye was touched in so many ways by how gracious, kind hearted and spirit filled she was.  She was everyone's greatest cheerleader, guidance counselor and friend.  She would always be counted on to give herself fully to everything with which she was a part.  She will be dearly missed.

Though the loss of Sis. Faye Burrell was a great tragedy, the church has maintained it's faithfulness to God and has grown both spiritually and physically. We were given a great opportunity to meet at the location of one of our many supporters and the place where Pastor Burrell maintains his position as Chaplain, "The Regal Marina" near the International Airport.  There we await God's Blessing of a new church building.

As the ministry grows through it's many changes, God continually blesses and has blessed  Pastor Burrell to re-marry a very God-fearing, sincere and loving woman named Michelle R. Burrell.  Sis. Michelle Burrell is both a blessing to Pastor Burrell, and a true asset to the OBF Ministry.  With a sincere heart for people and a true love for God  she continues the work God began at Orlando Bible Fellowship some time ago.  Embodying the true meaning of a woman set apart as unto God she has put her all into seeing the ministry reach it's true potential.

Orlando Bible Fellowship will always continue sharing the gospel to those that are lost and reaching the world with life transforming truth.  We hold steadfast to our commitment  to share the love of God through the Dynamic of Contemporary Worship, Aggressive Outreach, Caring Relationships and Daring Discipleship (W.O.R.D.).

We hope you will come be a part of a fascinating and growing church home that is dedicated helping the world grow spiritually.
